Fans at Morrison Stadium went home in shock on Friday night in an emotional scene. The Creighton men’s soccer team suffered defeat after a 110 minute marathon battle on the field which led to a penalty kick shootout. The Bluejays lost 4-3 in the shootout against UMBC ending Creighton’s season.
There were a couple of opportunities during the timed part of the match. A shot was just missed over the top of the crossbar during the first overtime. Another one was just wide left at the end of the second overtime. Both teams left it all out on the field with UMBC advancing to the soccer’s Final Four.
The good news is that the Bluejays will return a majority of their starters in 2015 and they will have this match in the back of their mind for motivation for next year.
