Virginia and Cal engaged Sunday in a pitcher’s dual, with each team unable to break through in the run column until late in the game. But the Cavaliers plated two runs in the seventh inning and another two in the eighth en route to a 4-1 win against the Bears. Cal scored its only run in the ninth inning, avoiding a shutout but entering the losers bracket.
