Bluejay Beat: Creighton Wins a Close One Against Kennesaw St.

From game one to game two, you want to see progress.  For Creighton fans, while it may have been difficult to notice, the Jays did improve their defense between game one and game two as they grinded out a 51-44 victory over Kennesaw St. on Thursday night at CHI Health Center Omaha.

The shots weren’t falling for the Jays on this night. At the same time, the Owl’s weren’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard either after scoring 73 points a couple days before at Iowa St. in a game where there were 60 fouls called and Kennesaw St. went to the line a lot.

However against the Bluejays it was the solid defense without getting fouls called that led to the victory.  Alex O’Connell led the way with 13 points, with Ryan Nembhard and Ryan Kalkbrenner adding 11 and 10 points respectively.  Creighton was 1-of-19 from three, and 10-of-18 from the free throw line. The Jays scored the fewest points in a win at home since the 80’s.

Matt DeMarinis and the Omaha World Herald’s Jon Nyatawa got together after the game to break things down.  Enjoy.
