During a recent visit to the Creighton Athletics offices to look through the game film archives of the Altman Era, we discovered a series of season highlight videos from the late-1990s and early-2000s. These videos were produced by Godfather’s Pizza, and shown at the annual Bluejay Bash each summer; while a few copies have circulated “underground” over the years, we’re excited to present them officially for the first time since those golf outings nearly two decades ago.
A couple of weeks ago, we presented the 1998-99 video as the first installment of these time capsules, and today we present the second — a season retrospective from 1999-00 entitled “On the Road with the Jays.” It’s exactly what it sounds like — a camera crew follows the Jays on a trip to Carbondale, and along the way, we see the team goofing around on the bus, eating at Wendy’s, going over scouting reports in the hotel, and practicing at the arena, followed by a whole bunch of clips from the season. And what a season it was — a 23-10 record, a second-straight Arch Madness title, and a trip to the Metrodome in Minneapolis for the NCAA Tournament where a furious last-minute rally against Auburn came up just short.
Enjoy this latest installment, and check back later this week when we’ll debut the newly-discovered footage of the Creighton-Xavier New Years Eve clash from 2002 in a very special Bluejay Rewind.
