During a visit to the Creighton Athletics offices to look through the game film archives of the Altman Era last summer, we discovered a series of highlight videos from the late-1990s and early-2000s. These videos were produced by Godfather’s Pizza, and shown at the annual Bluejay Bash each summer; while a few copies have circulated “underground” over the years, they’ve mostly been unseen since then.
One of those videos is this 26-minute film entitled “The History of Creighton Basketball 1955-2003”, which we’re proud to share with you as we tip off another summer of “Bluejay Rewind.” Produced in the summer of 2003, it’s exactly what it sounds like — a chronicle of Creighton’s half-century of hoops at the Civic Auditorium. Debuting at the Bluejay Bash that summer, it begins with the first game played at that arena and ends with the final game, which had happened just months prior to this video’s production. In between, there’s clips of every major star of the Civic Era, interspersed with interviews and remembrances from many of those key figures.
Never released on home video and never shown on TV, for a lot of Jays fans this is probably the first time they’ve seen this excellent documentary. We’re thrilled to give you that opportunity as the first of nine straight weeks of footage of classic Bluejay hoops begins. Enjoy!
