Chronicles From Corvallis: Bluejays Get Revenge Opportunity Against Michigan

With Creighton’s win over Cincinnati cementing another game against Michigan, the Jays will be able to see someone other than Karl Kauffmann, which, thank the baseball Gods for that.

Instead, they get to square off against Tommy Henry, the fireballer lefty that features a 3.61 ERA in 92.1 innings pitched. Their lineup will look roughly the same as it did Friday with one exception:

No Jack Blomgren. Late in Friday night’s game Blomgren twisted his back on a check swing and was subsequently pulled the next inning. Other than that, same ol’ Michigan lineup.

The game is set to start at 8pm CT. It’ll likely be either on ESPN3 or one of the sister sites.

— Denson Hull gets the start today. Sporting a 5.78 ERA, the senior righty has struggled with control issues from time to time, but can be effective if he’s able to locate his slider well.

— Tommy Henry has had multiple double-digit strikeout games this year. Against The Citadel he had 13. Against Northridge he had 12. Against number one overall UCLA he had ten.

— Henry’s season high in walks came against Minnesota. He had four.

— Henry is considered the best MLB prospect player on the team. He’s struck out 104 batters this year. He’s accurate and pounds the zone but can get touched up occasionally. He’s allowed 2 dongshots in four games this year and one dongshot in two ballgames.

— If the Bluejays can get into the Michigan bullpen early, they’ll have a great deal of success. If they don’t, they’re going to be dealing with a guy that can work 7+ shutout innings with ease.
