Creighton Volleyball to Host Spring Scrimmage

Creighton Volleyball celebrated their first trip to the NCAA Tournament last season and also garnered a first round win.  Building on that success, the Bluejays will host a spring scrimmage to the public for the first time.

Creighton is one of eight schools that will host the top professional volleyball team from China, Tianjin Bridgstone. The scrimmage will be held on Friday, April 22nd at 5:30 p.m. at Sokol Arena in the Ryan Center on the Creighton campus.  Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 (check or cash)

“Tianjin Bridgestone is one of the top professional teams in the world, and we’re fortunate to be hosting them,” said head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth. “It’ll be a huge challenge for our young team, but we’re looking forward to learning more about not just on-court volleyball skills, but also the Chinese culture, in preparation for this match.”

Creighton’s match will be in the middle of Tianjin Brdigestone’s United States tour as they will visit Illinois (April 19), Kansas State (April 21), Nebraska (April 23 at the NU Coliseum), Colorado State (April 26), Norco Club, Laguna Beach Club and UC Irvine (April 29).

In the past, Creighton Volleyball has worked out in their spring season in a relatively non-public setting.  To have this scrimmage and to be able to offer it to the public shows the continual growth of the program under coach Booth.  This is a great opportunity for the fans to check out the team before the fall.  To-be seniors Laurel Sanford and Karisa Almgren lead the way as well as returning setter to-be junior Megan Bober and to-be sophomore Julianne Mandolfo.
