Creighton Women's Soccer advances to NCAA Tournament (WBR/Adam Streur)

Creighton athletics has been in a bit of a drought reaching the NCAA Tournament in any sport.  Last year the only team to make the NCAA Tournament was the softball team.  At the start of this athletic year, things are off to a hot start.

The Creighton Women’s Soccer team has been playing great soccer all season. They broke the school record for wins in a season and were the regular season MVC champs.  On Sunday, they added to their hardware by winning the MVC Tournament championship against Missouri State on an Erin Gunther penalty kick in overtime to allow the Bluejays to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

Creighton freshman, Lauren Cingoranelli was named tournament MVP and the Bluejays were able to celebrate on their home field at Morrison Stadium.

The Bluejays will find out their opponent in the NCAA Tournament on Monday at 3:30 p.m.  You can join the soccer team at The Old Mattress Factory down by the Qwest Center or watch the selection show on ESPNU.

In the meantime, check out the initial pictures from WBR photographer Adam Streur at the MVC Championship game.

Also, here is a photo gallery from Adam Streur of Creighton’s win over Evansville in the MVC semifinals on Friday night.
