Men's Soccer

Futbol Friday: Presented by Sun Valley Landscaping

Creighton men’s soccer coach Elmar Bolowich saw his No. 4 Bluejays drop a midweek match at No. 22 Saint Louis University. The Jays are 2-2-2 in their past six matches after earning the nation’s top ranking among D-I collegiate soccer programs. WBR caught up with Bolowich ahead of his team’s home match this Saturday night against Xavier (7:00 p.m., Morrison Stadium).

WBR: Creighton traveled down to Saint Louis University this week and came home with a 0-1 loss. Did fatigue from the previous double-overtime matches play into the performance?

EB: It was a very sloppy game, one of the worst ones I have coached. It was not one of our best efforts that’s for sure. Also, when Fabian [Herbers] went out in the first half with an ankle injury, we were very limited in our offensive approach. With [Sean] Kim and Z [Zabarle Kollie] out, we cannot get as creative as we would like. It really hurt losing Fabian in that game.

WBR: Do you have an update on any of the injuries, specifically Z, Alex [Bolowich], and Fabian?

EB: Fabian will be out this weekend, he will not play. Z is day to day. Alex is the same, he is day to day with a nagging achilles issue. We will see how they practice today and make the call tomorrow on if they will play or not.

WBR: Can you tell us anything about Xavier?

EB: Not really. I have never played them or seen them play. We will watch a little film on them today before practice and that will be about it.

WBR: After the game tomorrow night, it will be nice to have a week before your next game. Will you be giving the guys any extra time off, more than usual?

EB: Absolutely. We will take two days off next week. People sometimes forget that these are students, and not just soccer players. With midterms coming up, we will give them time to catch up with school work as well as get some much needed rest. It will be needed.
