Kenny Lawson wants to play in the pool with the Big Boys. The Omaha World Herald has reported today that Kenny Lawson is entering his name into the NBA Draft. According to the report, Lawson is merely declaring to test the waters and has every intention of coming back to Creighton for his Senior season.
“I want to keep my options open,” Lawson said. “But with the NCAA rules, I wanted to test the waters, so to speak. I would like to see where I’m at, and the stuff I need to work on”‘
Lawson lead Creighton in almost every major statistical category last season and has actually been the most consistent for the last two seasons.
Early entrants have until April 25th to declare. If players do not hire an agent, they can still withdraw from the draft and return to school. Lawson is not planning on hiring an agent. Last season Illinois State’s Osiris Eldridge declared for the draft, but returned to the Redbirds for his Senior season. Lawson will be able to participate in the NBA Draft combine May 19-23 with the opportunity to withdraw and return to school by June 14th. This could be a great opportunity for the Center to see what he needs to work on in the offseason, play against some stiff competition and apply what he learns to his continued development for a Creighton team that would like to rebound from a tough season. Kenny will face off against the likes of John Wall, Evan Turner, DeMarcus Cousins, Xavier Henry, and others that have declared early for the NBA draft.
Lawson was a Second-Team All-MVC player and on the MVC All Defensive team this past season.
