April 9, 2000 — The Creighton women’s tennis team defeats Wichita State for the first time in school history, 5-4.

Creighton posted this win back when women’s tennis followed the 9-point format, and each match counted as one point. The Bluejays’ showdown with the Shockers started with singles, and WSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins over Jeanne Raynor at #4 and Jenny Daker at #5.

Lauren Woodward got Creighton on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #6 singles, followed by a victory by Melissa Rosenthal at #2 singles (6-3, 7-6).

Meggan Green gave the Bluejays the lead with a three-set win at #3 singles (6-1, 2-6, 6-0). And a huge win by Divya Bala (6-4, 0-6, 7-6) at #1 gave Creighton a 4-2 lead heading into doubles.

It was during doubles that Wichita State rallied to tie the match, posting wins at #2 doubles (8-2) and #3 doubles (8-3). The match came down to #1 doubles, where #1s Bala and Green fought hard for an 8-6 win. The victory was Creighton’s first on Wichita’s home courts.
