The Metro Summer League has a quick turn around from last Thursday’s games with Monday night dates the next two weeks.
Will all the Creighton players be playing tonight? There is no guarantee that everyone will be there each night. But for tonight, we have confirmed that all the players should be there, with the exception of Cole Huff.
Projected Game of the Night
9:00 p.m., Court 3–John Higgins Weatherguard (2-0) vs. EQ School of Hair Design (1-1)
Bluejays to Watch: Devin Brooks, Geoffrey Groselle, Zach Hanson, Leon Gilmore III
Let’s face it, Devin Brooks is fun to watch in Summer League. The senior-to-be is sometimes limited from showing his flash during Creighton’s regular season games, but in this league anything goes. That has been the case so far with Brooks through the first two games. In the first game of summer league he looked to score, while last Thursday he looked to distribute the ball. We’ll see what happens his week. Hanson has been solid to watch and while Gilmore hasn’t done a whole lot on defense, it was noted that he played some great defense last week. Yes, I said defense. If you are looking at a team that will make a showing once the tournament comes around in a few weeks I say it will be one of these two teams.
Creighton-Heavy Games
8:00 p.m., Court 3–Judd Knispel Agency (0-2) vs. Zurlo’s (2-0)
Bluejays to Watch: Nick Bahe, Jahenns Manigat, Matt Dorwart, Austin Chatman, Toby Hegner, Mo Watson
If you enjoy watching a mix of current and former Bluejays in the same game, this will be the one for you. There’s been a lot of praise heaped on Hegner and Watson through the first two weeks of summer league, and they will look to lead the Zurlo’s team to a 3-0 start against the team full of Bluejay veterans. We still aren’t sure if Cole Huff will be playing yet, but it would be a nice addition to a Judd Knispel team looking for a win.
8:00 p.m., Court 4–Paragas Law Firm (1-1) vs. Bank of Nebraska (1-1)
Bluejays to Watch: Will Artino, Ricky Kreklow, Justin Carter, Gregory Echenique
Kreklow made his debut last Thursday and he looked pretty good, but it wasn’t enough in the squeaker of a loss to Zurlo’s. Will Artino will need to do more than stay around the three-point line in this one with Bank of Nebraska back on track. With the high-flying James Parrott, the strength of Justin Carter, and the finesse of Wes Wilkinson, this one will be a battle.
9:00 p.m., Court 4–Shank’s Law Firm (0-2) vs. Narmi Group @ Baird (1-1)
Bluejays to Watch: James Milliken, Tyler Clement, Avery Dingman, Ronnie Harrell
Milliken and Harrell have looked pretty good for their teams so far, but they have some work to do after last week. Both are coming off of losses and other players will need to step up to get a win this week.
The Rest
7:00 p.m., Court 1–Andy’s Lawncare (2-0) vs. UNO Alumni (0-2)
Andy’s Lawncare might be the team to beat this summer. They have been looking impressive so far and they have several Nebraska graduate pros that help lead that team. With the way UNO Alumni has played so far this summer, they are going ot have a tough time against Andy’s.
7:00 p.m., Court 2–Bruins (1-1) vs. Apex Foster Care (0-2)
Bellevue University and Peru State face off in this one. The Bruins have a little more momentum after picking up a win last Thursday.
8:00 p.m., Court 1–Cape Truck Acc. (2-0) vs. Lopers (1-1)
Midland University and UNK (along with a couple players form UNO) face off in this one. Cape Truck Acc. are on a similar roll that they were on last summer and will be tough to beat.
8:00 p.m., Court 2–Winning Mentality (1-1) vs. BD (1-1)
Bluejays to Watch: Antoine Young
Winning Mentality picked up a win on Thursday while BD suffered a loss. Both teams have a lot of basketball veterans on their teams and this one is a tossup.
9:00 p.m., Court 1–Mustangs (2-0) vs. Northeast (2-0)
Northeast CC has been off to a fast start and have been a lot of fun to watch. The Mustangs have been consistent. It will be a fast paced game for sure in this battle of undefeated teams.
9:00 p.m., Court 2–Big O Boys (0-2) vs. ABIDE (0-2)
Bluejays to Watch: Steve Ferarrini
Both teams are looking for their first win this week.
