Men's Basketball

Photo Gallery: Creighton Basketball Booms the Sooners

A new chapter of the 2019-20 Creighton men’s basketball season started on Tuesday night.  Denzel Mahoney made his long awaited debut 18 seconds into the game, the Bluejays rolled down hill letting it fly, and sent Oklahoma back to Norman with an 83-73 win.

Mahoney entered the game early after Christian Bishop was called for a quick foul, one possession into the game.  Mahoney made his mark right away with a drive to the basket on his first touch.  While he missed his first shot, he then took his second to nail a three-pointer, and then had another drive to the basket where he was fouled and hit early free throws.  He finished with 14 points, and you could tell right away that he creates a different dynamic for the team.

It took a balanced team effort with Marcus Zegarowski leading the way with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Tyshon Alexander had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Mitch Ballock had 17 points and 7 rebounds for the big 3.  It was the extra effort by Christian Bishop and Damien Jefferson and the lockdown defense by Shereef Mitchell that kept Oklahoma from getting comfortable.

WBR photographers Brad Williams and Ken Juszyk were there at CHI Health Center Omaha to capture the action.  After seeing the slideshows below, head over to the WBR photo store to get your favorite prints for your Jays fan in time for Christmas.
