Students started lining up early this morning at the CHI Health Center Omaha to get their chance to watch the Creighton men’s basketball team take on #1 Gonzaga. The rest of the crowd also came early to fill the arena. In front of the fifth largest crowd in the program’s history, the Bluejays came up just short 103-92.
The Bluejays jumped out to the early lead with the building buzzing and drove the lead of seven into halftime, similar to last season’s matchup with the Zags out west. Unfortunately, Gonzaga took advantage of a lull in Creighton’s offense in the middle of the second half to pull ahead. The Zags made their free throws down the stretch (shooting 22-of-27 for the game) to seal the victory.
Ty-Shon Alexander led the Bluejays with 27 points while Damien Jefferson had 15 points.
