Pat Dangerous spent the past two days in the Morrison Stadium parking lots, so his fingers were a bit too frigid to type more than this brief but eloquent recap from Sunday’s NCAA Tournament quarterfinal match between Creighton and South Florida.
That’s right. Two days. Omaha’s first substantial snowfall of the season caused the postponement of Saturday’s scheduled match until Sunday. But 24 hours after the pitch was covered in a slick and heavy blanket of snow, the Morrison Stadium grounds crew had cleared the surface and the Bluejays and Bulls were ready to play.
The Jays and Bulls played 90 scoreless minutes in regulation before heading to overtime. It was in the extra period that Ethan Finlay connected on a golden goal off a deflected shot by Andrew Ribeiro, sending the Morrison Stadium crowd into a cold frenzy and ensuring Creighton’s season will continue in next weekend’s College Cup.
WBR’s Mike Spomer spent Saturday shooting images of an unplayable pitch, and Sunday capturing photos from Creighton’s 14th home win of the season. Check them out below!
