Bruce Erickson’s Creighton Bluejays will play for the MVC Tournament championship Sunday afternoon after posting a 2-1 overtime win against Missouri State Friday night in the tournament’s second semifinal.

Sophomore Beth Fyles scored her 5th goal of the season in the first half to give the Bluejays a 1-0 advantage, a lead MSU erased with just 7 minutes left in the match — the Bears’ first goal in Omaha against Creighton since Oct. 8, 2000, a span of 636:11 covering six-plus games (kudos to CU Sports Information for that tasty sports stat nugget!).

The Bluejays and Bears battled into extra time, where the freshmen connection of MVC Frosh-o-the-year Brittney Neumann to Laura Nasseri landed Creighton the game-winning goal. Nasseri beat all-MVC keeper Jessica Teahan for her second goal of the season off a sweet cross from Neumann.

If you’re headed to the Qwest Center to watch the Creighton-UNO game on Sunday, set your DVRs for Cox Channel 22 at 1:00 p.m., when the Bluejays will face Illinois State for the MVC title and an automatic trip to the NCAA Tournament.
