Today in Bluejay History (11/26)

November 26 — On this day in 2000 and 2003, Creighton beat San Diego in the NCAA Tournament.

On their way to the national championship match, the Bluejays beat SDU 3-0 in California in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Goals from Keith Sawarynski, Matt Jewett, and Brian Mullan paced the Jays, who received a shutout effort from goalie Mike Gabb.

Then, three years later, Creighton and the Toreros battled through 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods with the score still deadlocked. Matt Jewett, David Wagenfuhr, and Vince Odorisio hit shootout goals, and then Andrew Brown rejected SDU’s fourth attempt. Tony Odorisio then knocked in the game-winner, giving CU a 5-3 advantage and the victory.
