Today in Bluejay History (1/21)

January 21, 1998 — Rodney Buford swipes 7 steals and Ryan Sears grabs 6 to lead Creighton to a 94-80 blowout win over Missouri State.

Buford’s 7 steals are two off the school’s all-time single game mark, set by Michael Johnson against Saint Joe’s in 1981. Buford added 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and a blocked shot against the Bears. Sears’ line was equally impressive, as the Ankeny Bulldog went for 16 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds in addition to the half dozen steals.

But the Bluejays weren’t done yet, as two other CU players scored 20 or more against MSU that night. Ben Walker scored 20 and added 7 rebounds and a couple of steals, and Doug Swenson came off the bench to score a team-high 23 points and 5 rebounds.
