January 25, 1979 — Jim Honz posts one of the most accurate shooting displays in Creighton men’s basketball history against Southern Illinois.

Honz, a 6-9 sophomore center from Bishop Ryan High School in Omaha, made 11 of 12 field goal attempts in an 82-81 win against the Salukis on the road. His 91.6% shooting percentage is second all-time (minimum 12 attempts) behind only perfect games from Bob Harstad (against Texas-San Antonio), Anthony Tolliver (against Illinois State), and Vernon Moore (against Nebraska-Kearney) and a 12-13 game from Benoit Benjamin (against Tulsa).

The next season, as a junior, Honz would post a 59.4% shooting percentage, which remains the 3rd best single-season field goal percentage (minimum 200 attempts) in Creighton history. Honz left Creighton in 1981 with 864 points and 507 rebounds in 92 games, averaging 9.39 points and 5.5 rebounds for his career.
