Today in Bluejay History (2/18)

February 18, 1995 — Evansville beats Creighton in Omaha.

The Purple Aces joined the Missouri Valley Conference during the 1994-1995 season, and promptly defeated the Bluejays twice during their inaugural year in the Valley. After beating the Jays 85-54 in Evansville on February 4, Creighton welcomed the Aces to Omaha two weeks later. The result? A 69-59 beat down of the Bluejays, giving the UE the season sweep.

Remarkably, that was one of just two wins in Omaha for the Aces since joining the league. Creighton and Evansville had never squared off before the winter of 1995, and since dropping those first two matchups the Bluejays are 21-7 against the Aces.

CU is 12-2 all-time against UE at home. Creighton’s only other loss to Evansville in Omaha came in January 1999, but the Bluejays would avenge that defeat by beating the Aces in the MVC tournament championship game.
