March 10, 2006 — Chris Gradoville and the Creighton baseball team’s series against Tennesee Tech gets off to a smashing start.
Gradoville is the last player in Creighton baseball history to hit 6 or more home runs in one series. He hit 2 solo shots in the first of three games against Tennessee Tech, then hit 2 home runs (one a grand slam) in the same inning in the second game of the series. To finish the sweep, Gradoville hit 2 more home runs in the series finale. For the series, Gradoville hit .643 with 6 home runs and 13 RBI.
The three-game slaughtering against Tennessee Tech marks the last time the Jays hit 3 grand slams in one series, and the game on March 10 was the last time CU smashed 2 grand slams in the same game. Darin Ruf hit one in the first inning of the 17-3 win, while Chase Odenreider hit one in the ninth inning.
For the series, CU outscored Tennessee Tech 43-18.
