Today in Bluejay History (3/9)

March 9, 2003 — A late steal and dunk helps Creighton survive a scare from Wichita State en route a MVC championship showdown with Southern Illinois.

The Bluejays clawed back from a 10-point halftime deficit against the Shockers in the Arch Madness semifinals, and took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Kyle Korver late in the second half. But the Shox rebounded a Brody Deren free throw miss and had a chance to tie or take the lead. That is, of course, until DeAnthony Bowden swiped the ball from an unsuspecting Randy Burns, turning the Shockers over.

Larry House gave the Jays a 4-point lead with a wide-open dunk, and Burns hit a meaningless 3-pointer as time expired, giving the Bluejays a 1-point win, their second in as many days.
