Today in Bluejay History (3/14)

March 14, 2009 — Creighton holds Drake to just 35 points in the MVC Tournament semifinals.

The Bluejays beat the Bulldogs 53-35 in the semifinals to earn their second trip to the MVC Tournament championship in three seasons. The 35 points allowed stands as a school record for the lowest point total for an opponent in the MVC Tournament.

The Bluejays held Drake’s shooters to just 1 made 3-point attempt, a season-best effort for Creighton in that department, while overall the Bulldogs made just 26% of their shots from the field.

The Jays didn’t start the first half too hot from the floor, either, but warmed up as the game progressed. CU shot 44% in the second half, and was paced by Chevelle Herring’s 17 points. The two Kelseys (Crites and Woodard) both scored 9 points to aid Herring in the scoring column.
