Today in Bluejay History (3/22)

March 22, 1941 — Creighton beats Wyoming in the NCAA Tournament.

A few days after beating Iowa State in a regional play-in game in the NCAA Tournament, the Bluejays lost to Washington State 48-39 in the tournament’s first round. But two days later, during the third place game of the Western Regional Finals, Creighton edged the Cowboys 45-44.

Dick Nolan was the hero that day for the Bluejays, as his free throw with 20 seconds left gave CU a 45-42 lead. Nolan only recorded 3 points during the game; Don Fleming (17 points) and Ed Beisser (14 points) paced the Jays.
