March 7, 1989 — Creighton beats Southern Illinois for the MVC championship.

After posting 5-point wins against Indiana State and Drake in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the MVC Tournament, the Bluejays met the Salukis in the conference championship game. The contest wasn’t decided until James Farr hit a jumper with the game tied and 3 seconds on the clock, giving the Jays a 79-77 win over SIU.

The Bluejays would lose to #6 Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on St. Patrick’s Day 10 days later.
