August 17, 2007 — The Omaha World-Herald reports that Ed Servais’ baseball program will retain one of its stars and actually get to welcome another to campus as previously planned.

All-American pitcher Pat Venditte decides to return to Creighton for his senior season, turning down a chance to report to the New York Yankees’ farm system after the organization selected him in the 45th round of the 2007 draft. Freshman shortstop Elliot Soto went a few dozen rounds higher than Venditte, as the Minnesota Twins plucked the senior infielder from the high school ranks in the 13th round of the draft.

After posting a 9-3 record and 3.34 ERA throwing from both sides of the mound his senior season, the Bronx Bombers again drafted Venditte – he went in the 20th round of the 2008 draft.

Soto played in 50 games as a freshman in 2008, and then last season he earned first team All-MVC honors as a sophomore..
