Today in Bluejay History (8/6)

August 6, 2002 — Future Creighton women’s basketball star Angie Janis scored 14 points, including 8 of her team’s final 9 points, and led her squad to a 65-62 victory in the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star girls basketball game in Lincoln.

Janis, who would start her freshman year at Creighton a few weeks later, was a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference pick. During her senior season, she led the Jays with 18.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Upon graduation, Janis left as the program’s fifth leading scorer of all time (1,630 points). She was third all-time in rebounding (775), fourth in field goals made (631), and fifth in blocked shots (91). She accomplished these feats while playing in 124 games for the Jays, third-best in program history.
