August 7, 2002 — The Omaha World-Herald reports that Damien Westfield, Kama Bennah, Mehdi Ballouchy, Jered Turner, and Matt Wieland will make their debuts as newcomers to head coach Bob Warming’s Creighton soccer team in a few weeks.

Each of these five newcomers would have an impact on a team that saw its season end in the College Cup semifinals in Dallas, two wins shy of the school’s first national championship.

  • Westfield finished the season tied for second on the team in goals (8) and third in total points (20). He started 20 of 24 games, and 3 of his goals were game-winners.
  • Ballouchy also started 20 of 24 games. He recorded 4 assists and 5 goals, one of which was a game-winner.
  • Bennah started 12 games and took 20 shots, eighth most on the team.
  • Wieland started 22 of 24 games for the Jays, chipping in an assist.
  • Turner saw action in 14 games, scoring 1 goal and adding 2 assists.
