Today in Bluejay History (9/4)

September 4, 1993 — Creighton’s men’s soccer team, ranked #4 in the nation to start the season, begins its quest for a national championship with a 3-1 victory at home against #9 Charlotte.

Head Bluejay Bob Warming spent 7 seasons at Charlotte as head coach before coming to Creighton in 1990. In 1992he put the Bluejays in the NCAA Tournament. And in 1993, it looked as though the stars were aligned for Creighton to capture its first national title.

After beating Charlotte to open the season, Warming’s Bluejays would win another 18 matches – in a row. They became the #1 team in the country midway through the season, and carried that ranking into the NCAA tournament. Everything came crashing down in the first round, however, with Creighton losing at home against Air Force 2-1 in four overtimes.
