Today in the Valley: December 13, 2009

Oral Roberts (6-4) @ Indiana State (5-3)

Hulman Center 1:05 CT WTWO-TV

Terra Haute, Ind.

After falling short against a tough Ball State team 63-68, the Sycamores will try and get back on track when they face the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles this afternoon in Terra Haute.  Oral Roberts has shown this season that they will either not show up for a game or knock off a talented opponent like Missouri.

This game should come down to the style of game that is played.  If ISU can get Mr. Suttons Eagles to play a slower paced game, then the Sycamores should handle this one.  We have all seen ORU play Valley teams in some nail biters, and this one has the potential to be on that list.

Niagara (6-4) @ Illinois State (7-0)

Redbird Arena 2:05 CT Comcast-Bloomington

Normal, Ill.

Niagara has been an up and coming mid-major program over the past few years, and the Redbirds of Illinois State were able to take on the Purple Eagles in last seasons BracketBusters.  With the return game being hosted by the undefeated Redbirds, this game should be the best challenge for Illinois State yet this season.

Similar to past non-conference schedules, the Redbirds have yet to post a real RPI builder on their schedule.  With Niagara in town, this could help their resume.  I hate to do it, but I may have to call an upset on this one.  I hope I am wrong, and I hope Tim will have his boys ready for a game that could definitely sneak up on them.
