Today in the Valley: January 19th, 2011

Indiana State (11-7, 6-1) vs. Missouri State (15-3, 7-0)

Hulman Center; Terre Haute, IN

6:05 CST

I don’t think many people thought this would be the game of the night in the MVC when the schedule came out, but I would have to say it is.  With the Scyamores coming off a huge win at home over the Bluejays, they continue to surprise everyone with their consistent play.

The one thing that may be more surprising than Indiana State being in second place at 6-1 may be the team they are trailing.  Missouri State has shown that their recent success is no fluke, and they have every intention of winning the league.  With the toughest road test behind them, they are in a great position, and it is theirs to lose.  Terre Haute will be a tough place to play, but I feel the Bears have a bit more talent and depth this year.  It is a shame FSN or Valley Television did not pick this one up, it could be a good one.

Wichita State (15-3, 6-1) vs. Northern Iowa (13-6, 4-3)

Koch Arena; Wichita, KS

7:05 CST TV: FSN

The Shockers had no problem getting back on the winning track after their loss to Missouri State, as the won in Omaha and beat Drake with ease 68-54.  They got punched in the face by the Bears a bit, but were able to bounce back with a few solid wins.

The Panthers of UNI will have their hands full as they travel to Wichita, a tough place for any team to play.  The Panthers were able to get on the positive side of the .500 mark with their win over Southern Illinois last weekend, and will try and pull off the upset tonight.
