The 2016-17 Bluejays spent eight weeks in the Top 10, defeated four ranked teams, and returned to the Big East Tournament championship game and the NCAA Tournament. They started 13-0 and won 18 of their first 19 games to earn a #7 ranking nationally in both the AP and coaches polls, the best mark in program history. That 18th win came with a heavy cost, as midway through the first half, star point guard Maurice Watson Jr. suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear, ending the season for the nation’s leader in assists and assists per game at the time. They were never the same, finishing 10-8 in the Big East to take a sixth seed into the league tourney, but they did provide one more memorable moment: Marcus Foster’s buzzer-beater in the Big East Semifinal to defeat Xavier.
