Desmond Lee to visit Creighton

Having already received verbal commitments from forwards Toby Hegner, Zach Hanson as well as guard Darian Harris, the Jays compiled a top recruiting class for 2013. Yet, like most successful coaching staffs, recruiting never stops.

The Jays are in a good position, with the ability to be selective and add another piece to the puzzle, IF they can find someone that fits what they are looking for. Over the last month the Jays coaching staff has been busy on he road assessing talent it feels can contribute to the Jays immediately next year. One such prospect is Desmond Lee, a 2013 guard of New Mexico JC. Lee, originally from Norfolk, Virginia, played at Heat Prep Academy, before signing with Tim Floyd and UTEP in 2010. Lee was a three star prospect out of high school, with interested from Marquette, South Florida and Boston College amongst others. Lee was described as a “heady player … someone who knows how to play the game,” by Floyd on El Paso’s local NBC affiliate. Floyd also said Lee is someone who can “rise and make shots … with good range.”

Lee was also a standout quarterback on the football field winning all state honors his senior year. In this respect Lee’s toughness and athleticism will remind Jays fans of former guard Justin Carter. In his bio Lee claims it is his toughness rather than skill that separates him from his competitors. Lee is also versatile enough to play either guard position. He is comfortable running the point, but most effective at coming off of screens for a shot, or taking the ball to the rim.

Creighton coaches were in New Mexico last week to check in on Lee’s progress and were pleased at what they saw. Lee will be visiting Creighton later this week. Lee is also getting interest from UNLV, St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, UAB, Colorado State, and East Carolina.
