Over the past couple of weeks, various Creighton athletic programs have secured committments from future Bluejays. Below is a summary of recent recruiting success:
Women’s Basketball
Bishop Neumann senior guard McKenzie Fujan will play basketball at Creighton according to the Lincoln Journal Star. Fujan is a two-time all-state guard as well as an all-around athlete. She has won gold medals in the hurdles and starts on the Volleyball team. McKenzie was a part of the Cornhusker Shooting Stars – Bison/Judds 17 and under team this summer that finished 48-9. Creighton has committed to recruiting in-state talent, and Fujan joins two other in-state commitments — 6’4″ center Alyssa Kamphaus from Seward and Omaha Westside’s 6’1″ forward Sarah Nelson.
Volleyball
Keeping with the in-state theme, the volleyball team received an early commit from junior setter Michelle Sicner from Millard North according to the Omaha World Herald. She had 409 assists and 109 kills as a freshman and 732 assists and 104 kills last year. There was interest by several other schools, but Creighton gave her the opportunity for a scholarship. Nebraska would have liked her to walk on. With Omaha Marian’s Julianne Mandolfo coming in next season, this duo has an opportunity to continue growing Creighton’s program with hometown talent.
Baseball
The Bloomington Pantagraph is reporting that catcher Andrew Holt is following family tradition and has made a commitment to the Bluejays. Holt’s father, Andy, was a catcher at Creighton from 1981 to ’85. His mother, Jean, played softball and basketball at Creighton and is a member of the Creighton Athletic Hall of Fame. With Ben Kline and Jordan Makovicka driving up I-80 to play for the Bluejays and Clay Cuno coming to Creighton, several new players will be making an impact for Ed Servais’ team the next few seasons.
