CU Soccer Player Gabriela Guillen Called to Costa Rican National Team

Plenty has been written and reported about men’s soccer frosh Dion Acoff spending time this summer with the United States’ Under-18 Men’s National team. But he’s not the only Creighton footballer featured on a national team roster in 2009.

According to GoCreighton.com, women’s soccer player Gabriela Guillen, a freshman from San Jose, Costa Rica, has been called up to the Costa Rican U-20 National team. She’s needed for Costa Rica’s 2010 CONCACAF qualifier match against El Salvador Sunday.

One of nine true freshmen on Bruce Erickson’s roster, Guillen saw her first action for Creighton in the Bluejays’ 1-0 loss at North Dakota State. Erickson told White & Blue Review that she passed up several games in the past few weeks with the U-20 team so she could get to know her teammates and get acclimated to the school. He also added that he expects Guillen to compete for minutes when she returns.

Be sure to catch Guillen’s teammates this weekend as they host Cal State Northridge (Friday) and Lamar (Sunday) at Morrison Stadium..
