Men's Soccer

Futbol Friday Presented by Omaha Friendly Services

Creighton’s men’s soccer team hosts Evansville Saturday night, marking the final regular season home match for the team’s seven seniors. Ethan Finlay, Brian Holt, and a host of other Bluejays will take a bow before thousands of CU soccer fans. WBR caught up with head coach Elmar Bolowich for our weekly discussion about his Creighton soccer program.

White & Blue Review: Since we last spoke, your team played two Valley games against Drake and Central Arkansas. How did those games go and what if anything did you take away from those wins?

Elmar Bolowich: Those games were Okay. We were pretty solid. We really had the games in hand for the most part so we were able to play some more of the bench. We are very fortunate that we have the depth that we do now because it allows us to remain healthy for the post season. The other great thing is that we never see a drop in effort with our subs. We are very fortunate to have such a deep team.

WBR: The latest RPI rankings came out on Monday and you were in the #1 spot. Was this surprising to you considering the ranking of the opponents Creighton has played recently?

EB: Part of our ranking was that we did a good job and executed when we needed to but the other part of it was that the teams that were ahead of us had some bad losses. We continued to do well and it has paid off. The fact that we had a very aggressive schedule at the beginning of the season really helped as well. With that in mind, we cannot slip up in any of the remaining games. We need to execute and we need to win out. We have the opportunity now to play a lot more games at home and benefit from our supporters. We really need the community to come out to Morrison Stadium these next few weeks.

WBR: You are coming to the conclusion of your first season here in Omaha. How has your first season gone?

EB: Better than I expected. The support from the Athletic Department, the community, and the student body has been amazing. I really enjoy Omaha, and I plan on staying here for a while.
