October 20, 2000 — Bret Simon’s Creighton men’s soccer team loses to MVC rival Bradley in Peoria during the Bluejays’ College Cup season.

The Bluejays brought a #10 ranking into a conference match against Bradley, which fielded prolific scorers Gavin Glinton, Hamid Mehreioskouei, and Bryan Namoff. The Braves moved their record to 11-3-2 with the 4-1 pummeling of Simon’s squad, scoring more goals off the 2000 team than any other side that season.

And what a season it was for Creighton. The loss at Bradley sparked an amazing run by the Bluejays; they won their next 7 matches, including a four overtime thriller against the same Braves squad in the MVC Tournament championship match, to enter the NCAA Tournament on a roll.

And they kept it going. The Jays won three NCAA Tournament matches on the road without allowing a goal, and then beat Indiana 2-1 in three overtimes in the College Cup semifinals. Creighton’s season would end in the national championship match, falling to Connecticut 2-0.

In all, the Bluejays won 11 straight matches following the debacle in Peoria.
