Today in Bluejay History (1/2)

January 2, 1969 — Bob Portman scores 38 points against UNLV, the ninth highest single-game total in Creighton history.

While the Bluejays dropped the 109-99 game in Las Vegas, Portman had his way with the Runnin’ Rebels.

Portman owns games of 51 points (single-game CU record), 46 points, 43 points, 42 points, and 39 points, in addition to the 38 he dropped against UNLV. In just three seasons, Portman scored 1,876 points — an astonishing 24.6 points per game, also tops in Creighton history.

And as my dad always says, “It would have been more, too, if there would have been 3-point shots then!”
