Today in Bluejay History (4/28)

April 28, 1970 — Ray Blusiewicz throws the first no-hitter in Creighton baseball history.

The University of South Dakota baseball team came to Omaha in late April 1970, and Ray Blusiewicz was ready. He threw a no-hitter for the Bluejays over 5 innings, but didn’t have to finish the rest of the game as CU won 15-0.

Blusiewicz’s no-no was the first of three such efforts in recorded Bluejays history, and the other two were also fewer than 9 innings in duration. The most recent Creighton no-hitter came in 2009 during the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, when Brandon Koenigstein shut Wichita State down.
