August 8, 2002 — Creighton gets Omaha Planning Board approval to close three streets and an ally around downtown Omaha, where the school will build a state-of-the-art soccer complex – now known as Morrison Stadium.

If the City Council approved the decision, then Creighton could move ahead with their plan to close Webster and California streets, an alley between 17th Street and Florence Boulevard, and 18th Street from Cass to Webster streets. To this point, the university had purchased or had contracts to buy all the properties that sit next to the proposed street closures..
