Today in the Valley: December 17, 2009

Georgia Southern (3-8) @ Evansville (4-3)

Roberts Stadium

Evansville, IN 7:05 PM CT

It’s been over a week since the Purple Aces last took the court.  In that game, they went to Western Kentucky and returned to Indiana with a loss.  It’s been a tough week of practice not only for the Purple Aces but all basketball teams.  It’s tough to practice with finals going on.  Teams have to practice when they can.  The schedules during finals isn’t the same as it was the rest of the semester.  The Purple Aces will be a man down for about a month.  Guard Kavon Lacey had knee surgery earlier in this week and will be a big loss.

In that game against the Hilltoppers, Colt Ryan scored a career high 23 points.  This freshman has been one of the bright spots for the the Purple Aces.  A close game throughtout, the Purple Aces couldn’t pull it out.  Another bright spot for Evansville has been sophomore James Haasrma.

Georgia Southern comes in riding a a 4-game losing streak.  On Tuesday they hosted Coastal Carolina but were defeated.  Willie Harris has been the go to guy for the Eagles.  He’s average over 33 minutes a game and nearly 15 points.  Coach C.Y. Young plans on getting a victory.  Coaching his alma mater this former Georgia Tech assistant brings plenty of big game experience to the table.
