Creighton sports didn’t have the greatest of days Tuesday, as all three major fall teams were in action and were unable to post victories.
Things started off bad for the Bluejays as the women’s soccer team was shutout on the road against North Dakota State. Bruce Erickson’s Bluejays gave up their first goal of the season but couldn’t answer with a tally themselves in a 1-0 loss.
Then, down in Lincoln, the volleyball team took on Nebraska. After starting off slow in the first two sets and trying to play catchup, the Bluejays were not able to overcome the jitters and got swept. With two games against top 10 teams in the past four days, the Kirsten Bernthal Booth’s team has garnered some great experience. The Bluejays continue on the road for a few more weeks until their next home game at Sokol Arena on September 18.
To finish out the evening, the men’s soccer team took to the pitch for its first regular season game. After 110 grueling minutes, the game ended in a 0-0 tie at Morrison Stadium. Though each team had their opportunities to score, both keepers played well and the Ramblers headed back to Chicago with the draw. Another tough game awaits Bob Warming’s club, with Cal Poly coming to Omaha this weekend for a Saturday night showdown between two top 25 teams.
