Recruiting never stops. Despite the fact the Jays are technically out of scholarships to offer for the 2013 season, they will welcome PG target Travis Jorgenson to the CLink this Wednesday. With Toby Hegner, Darian Harris and Zach Hanson all signed for 2013 the open scholarship would come from the ‘Doug McDermott Scholarship’ in which Coach Mac would pay for Doug’s senior year or Doug could choose to enter into the NBA draft.
Jorgenson has long been on the Jays radar. He played high school ball for Rock Bridge in Missouri where past Creighton target Ricky Kreklow and present Creighton verbal commit Nick Norton applied their trade. Jorgenson also played for KC Pump’n’Run (now KC Run GMC), an AAU side well known to this current Creighton staff.
Despite the connections Jorgenson broke hearts by committing early to hometown Missouri and new coach Frank Haith. Jorgenson said the ability to stay close to home for college paired with the up-tempo style the Tigers play with sold him on the University.
Seeking better competition night in-night out, Travis transferred to New Hampton School in New Hampshire. New Hampton boasts a top level schedule, which has Travis competing with the best players on a weekly basis. It is there where Travis felt unsure about his commitment to Missouri, as well as Missouri’s commitment to him. The Tigers also ended up signing Wesley Clark, a physical point guard from Michigan, but Jorgenson knew the Tigers were likely going to sign two points. Travis wanted to re-open his recruitment and ensure he was making the best decision for himself. Plenty of schools took notice and quickly moved in to begin his re-recruitment. Jorgenson has stated that Creighton, Boston College, Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Alabama top his list of interest. Of those Boston College, Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Creighton have offered.
Travis is a skilled point. At 6’0” he has excellent vision and passing, yet also possesses the ability and toughness to drive to the basket, get contact and hit a lay-up. Jorgenson is interesting because he seems to prefer dribbling with his left hand, yet clearly shoots from his right. He is a talented shooter.
Seen as one of the top players in the nation, not to mention one of the last top uncommitted prospects, Jorgenson would be a huge addition for the Jays. His skill set fits perfectly with the current 2013 signed players and would likely place Creighton on a few lists with a top 25 recruiting class.
